Church History
A Brief History
Liberty Christian Church is a non-denominational church founded for the purpose of equipping Christians in their spiritual walk with Christ through the expository preaching and teaching of the Word of God in order that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is spread to the world to the glory of God.
The first Sunday worship of Liberty Christian Church was held on April 17, 1994. This date marked the beginning of Liberty Christian Church. The first service was held in the boardroom of the La Quinta Inn in Layton Utah and continued there for two years until a move was made to the North Layton Jr. High facility. From there the church moved to Clearfield where it leased the chapel of a private Christian School (School of St. Peter). The church eventually moved to the Weber State University extension in approximately January 2001. In April of 2009, Liberty Christian held its first service in its own location in Sunset, Utah where it currently meets.
In November of 1998, the membership adopted a Church Constitution and Statement of Faith. A few months later, on April 25, 1999, Liberty Christian Church became elder led, establishing a church structure in line with New Testament teaching. The church was featured in a local newspaper article (Clipper) on October 21, 1999, where the eldership described the ministry of Liberty and shared some of its brief history.
In July of 2006 Liberty Christian Church elected to bring its senior pastor on to a full-time position as opposed to being bi-vocational. Later that year, the church was officially listed on the 9Marks website. This website lists various local churches across the United States characterized by nine marks indicating the biblical ministry of a healthy church. The website address is www.9marks.org. The nine characteristics they list are:
1. Expositional Preaching
2. Biblical Theology
3. Biblical Understanding of the Good News
4. Biblical Understanding of Conversion
5. Biblical Understanding of Evangelism
6. Biblical Understanding of Membership
7. Biblical Church Discipline
8. Promotion of Christian Discipleship and Growth
9. Biblical Understanding of Leadership
Liberty Christian Church is committed to these nine characteristics.
More important than the location or websites, however, are the principles upon which Liberty Christian Church has been built. These principles include sound doctrine, biblical teaching and leadership, and God-honoring active worship and service. Liberty Christian Church is committed to teaching the Bible and trusting that God will remain faithful to His people.
